Saturday, February 22, 2014 10:00am – 2:00pm Our February Family Day will focus on the birds that make Klehm and Northern IL their home in winter.  Each winter the North Central Illinois Ornithological Society (NCIOS) performs a bird count at Klehm and throughout Winnebago, Ogle and Boone counties. Families can go on a scavenger hunt for the birds counted by NCIOS.  After the walk, warm up in the Visitors Center Gallery with hot drinks and cookies. Kids can make and take home bird feeders, work on cardinal bird art and keep busy with other bird-related fun.  If your child has a peanut allergy, please be aware the bird feeder supplies may contain peanuts. Holiday Hours

Klehm Arboretum will be closed Tuesday, December 24 through Wednesday, December 25, 2013.  Klehm reopens Thursday, December 26, 2013.  We hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday weekend. All winter long it’s easy to enjoy Klehm while walking on our cleared and paved paths and traversing our woodland trails that are great for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Our Donation Days will continue to be the first Tuesday of every month, and we’ll have other great events to keep you coming. The arboretum is open seven days a week from 9am to 4pm. Admission: $6 for adults | $3 for seniors (62+), students (18+ with student ID) & kids 3-17 Free to Klehm members, reciprocal garden members & children under three. Saturday, August 24, 2013 Exhibit 10am – 3pm Kids Soap Carving 11am Presentation 1pm Come to Klehm’s Gallery for a special exhibit and presentation by the Blackhawk Woodcarvers. The exhibit will highlight different forms of wood carving with many examples sure to interest all ages. Kids will delight in using wood tools to carve soap with help from members of the Woodcarvers. At 1pm they will give a presentation talking about the wood carvings on display. Rhododendron & Azalea Dell Program and Tour...

The Dell is a volunteer-inspired project designed to demonstrate the beauty of many acid-loving plants, and the feasibility of growing them in our northern climate and limestone-underlain soil conditions. You’ll learn the basics about growing these acid-loving plants and the history of the Dell. Afterwards, Dave will lead you through this beautiful collection which now boasts over 90 different varieties and cultivars of Rhododendrons, Azaleas, Mountain-laurels, and Pieris, the largest such collection in Illinois in any public garden.
