Sunday, May 17, 2015 1pm – 4pm It’s time for Klehm’s annual celebration of our best friend – the dog. Bring your canine friends to spend a day enjoying and exploring our entire 155 acres of gardens and grounds. Our Community Dog Walk is meant to be informal and fun so there’s no scheduled programs, but we do have a cause. Arbor Dash 5K

Friday, April 24, 2015 Celebrate Arbor Day with a run through the woods! The 2nd annual Arbor Dash is a non-competitive fun run through Klehm’s 155 acres of trees and gardens at twilight. A brand new course that’s part road race, part trail run, the Arbor Dash is open to runners and walkers of all ages and fitness levels. In addition to a t-shirt, free passes to the garden and a reusable grocery bag, every participant goes home with their own seedling to help keep the forest in the Forest City. Winter Bird Walk

Saturday, January 10, 2015 8:30am – 10:30am Looking for a fun family activity?  This is it!  Get up early and help local bird expert Barb Williams search and listen for native birds in the quiet atmosphere.  She will lead a family-friendly walk to identify the many birds making the arboretum their home.  Visitors can help listen for the distinct sounds and learn the songs and calls of native birds such as an owl, cedar waxwing or black-capped chickadee singing.  Come dressed for the weather and warm up with hot chocolate afterward.  Then, stay and make a bird feeder to attract some of those birds just identified on the walk!  All ages are welcome at this event. How To Make Seed Balls

Seed balls make sowing a lot easier!  Seed balls are seeds wrapped in soil materials , then dried and planted later.  Seed balls can be dropped anywhere suitable for the species during the germination period.  First, sift clay to remove lumps and then measure out 5 parts clay,  3 parts compost and 1 part seeds.  Combine the seeds with the compost first, then add enough clay and water to hold the mixture together.  Roll out small amounts of the seed mixture to about the size of a penny.  Store seeds balls in a cool, dark area where insects will not disturb them.  Refrigeration works best if you have room available in your fridge.  In spring, toss the seed balls in a cleared area to germinate.  This method works great for wildflower gardens and is...
