As part of our Community Trees Program, Klehm Arboretum will join students of Temple Beth-El Religious School, the Jewish Federation of Greater Rockford and the Rockford Park District in celebrating Tu B’Shevat: “New Year of the Trees” or Jewish Arbor Day. To celebrate the importance of trees for personal and societal well-being, students of Temple Beth-El Religious School will share foods that come from trees; plant seedlings; and pledge to plant a tree in their community. The goal of the new Community Trees Program (CTP) is to share a vision of a sustainable community sheltered by a vibrant canopy of diverse, enduring trees to enhance the quality of life in the Rockford region. The CTP will fully assess the urban forestry needs and opportunities in our area and develop a strategic plan – aiming for a busy spring in 2012. The goal of the new Community Trees Program (CTP) is to share a vision of a sustainable community sheltered by a vibrant canopy of diverse, enduring trees to enhance the quality of life in the Rockford area. Rockford has a legacy of pride in all things green and growing and has the monikers “The Forest City” and “The City of Gardens”.
