Volunteer At Klehm

“I’ve found each event and volunteer activity with this organization to be profoundly rewarding in every way. Anyone with a love of nature will find great people, unique opportunities and fun family activities around every corner at Klehm.”

Enjoy the Benefits of Volunteering:

Klehm Arboretum strives to create a healthy and happy environment  in which volunteers can enjoy their work. Some of the rewards of  volunteering at Klehm include:

  • Opportunity to meet and develop friendships with others  who share your interests.
  • Supportive environment in which you can use your skills  and experience
  • Flexible scheduling that works with your busy lifestyle.

Our current volunteer needs include:

Garden Assistants

Assistants provide an  unforgettable first  impression to our guests  as they enter the  Arboretum and  gardens. Garden  Assistants work with  staff to create, maintain  and beautify our  gardens. Volunteer  duties include planting,  watering, weeding,  pruning and cultivating  plant material.

Trailblazers

Did you know that Klehm Arboretum has over 2 miles of unpaved  hiking trails? These trails require frequent monitoring. Spreading wood  chips, trimming branches, clearing underbrush and other general  maintenance is regularly needed to provide safe passage for hikers.  If your group can work independently and is looking for a project we  encourage you to contact us. The tools necessary for trail maintenance  require that all Trailblazers be at least 14 years of age.

Shuttle Drivers

Do you love spending time at Klehm? If so, we  encourage you to become one of our exclusive Klehm  Express shuttle drivers. Our pre-recorded tour will make  it easy for you. You are welcome to add personal stories about the  many ways that you enjoy Klehm Arboretum.

Shuttle drivers receive a free Klehm polo shirt and a one-year  membership. Drivers must enjoy interacting with people, have a good  driving record, and be able to commit to one 4-hour shift weekly,  from June through August.  To learn more about becoming a Klehm Express shuttle driver, please  contact  Dawn at 815-965-8146.

Special Event Volunteers

If you can only give a day, we still welcome your help. Klehm  Arboretum hosts numerous special events each season including  concerts, social events, receptions, exhibitions and fundraisers. We  have inside and outside needs, standing and seated opportunities,  technical and simple jobs – whatever your skill level and ability, we  can match you with a volunteer opportunity that will satisfy your  volunteer interest.
