Sunday, May 31, 2015 Klehm Hours 9am-8pm South West Ideas For Today and Tomorrow (SWIFTT) invites you to “Explore Rockford’s Roots” Sunday, May 31. Three southwest Rockford attractions will open their doors to the public and offer food coupons that may be redeemed at eight area eating establishments. Once again, Klehm Arboretum & Botanic Garden, Tinker Swiss Cottage, and the Ethnic Heritage Museum will partner with seven eateries to enhance your enjoyment of this cultural tour. Admission is free to the three destinations, and patrons will receive coupons worth up to $8 each for lunch or dinner at participating restaurants: Zammuto’s, La Chiquita, Delicias Bakery, Las Palmas, Luichi’s Hot Dogs, Chiquita Food Market, Mi Ranchito Restaurant and Guanajuato. Klehm’s Plant A Row Garden Bears Fruit...

Klehm’s Plant A Row garden proved most fruitful this year, providing a record amount of vegetables for local food pantries. Klehm donated 2078 lbs. of fresh produce to the Rock River Valley Food Pantry, largely thanks to the hard work of volunteer Mary Jo Shickles. This year’s haul included 189 lbs. of cabbage, 520 lbs. of zucchini and 722 lbs. of tomatoes. Launched in 1995, Plant A Row is a public service program of the Garden Writers Association and the GWA Foundation. Garden writers are asked to encourage their readers/listeners to plant an extra row of produce each year and donate their surplus to local food banks, soup kitchens and service organizations to help feed America’s...
