Milkweed for Monarchs

Garden Clubs of Illinois President’s Project Every member of the public and every garden club can bring back monarchs, one milkweed plant at a time, one re-seeded back road at a time, with no expense or modest expense to individuals or clubs. Garden Clubs of Illinois will partner with the Department of Natural Resources to get flower seed, including milkweed, into any roadside restoration projects or construction such as ramp infields and interchanges. IDOT officials have announced they will use all seed we will give them. Find and save seed now! Plan your garden project!  All IL garden clubs and individuals are encouraged to collect milkweed seeds – swamp milkweed, butterfly weed and common milkweed. Volunteer Appreciation

Thank you to all of our wonderful, supportive volunteers! A Volunteer Appreciation Brunch was held on Sunday, November 23rd at the arboretum.  We are so grateful for the countless hours put into the gardens and arboretum with volunteer time.  Weeding, dividing, ticket sales, planting and painting (yes, painting!) are among the long list of tasks completed by our volunteers.  Awards were given out to three special people whose contributions did not go unnoticed.  The recipients are listed below. Horticulture for the Holidays

Saturday, November 15, 2014 9:00am – 12.00pm University of Illinois Extension’s annual Horticulture for the Holidays event is scheduled for November 15th from 9 a.m. to noon (check-in begins at 8:30 a.m.) at Klehm Arboretum & Botanic Garden. Participants will experience two make-it-take-it workshops. The $25 fee includes all workshop materials, admission into Klehm Arboretum, and morning beverage service. Registration is limited.
