Sunday, October 13, 2013 10am – 2pm | Contest at 1pm Bring your costumed canine friends to spend a day enjoying and exploring our entire 155 acres of gardens and grounds. We have picnic sites and Coley’s Cooler will be on hand serving hot dogs. At 1pm that day, dog owners are encouraged to enter their furry friends into a free costume contest. Prizes will be awarded, and everyone will be able to take home good memories and pictures. In addition, there will be vendors with pet-friendly products to visit and an adoption event featuring PAWS, Good Shepherd Animal Sanctuary, Cause for Paws Rescue and Angels for Animals. Securing Klehm’s Financial Future Raising Funds for the Bur Oak Endowment with the Carroll H. Starr Endowment Challenge Grant In 2013 the Klehm Arboretum Foundation (KAF) was chosen to participate in the Carroll H. Starr Endowment Challenge Grant through the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois (CFNI). They will provide a $10,000 match for $30,000 raised in endowment funds before December 4, 2013. With only $4,000 more needed to reach our goal, we’re asking for your help. The Bur Oak Endowment provides a perpetual source of income for Klehm Arboretum and ensures the arboretum’s financial security for the future. This security allows Klehm to continue to grow and evolve, making improvements to the grounds and widening the scope of educational programming available to the community. Klehm’s Plant A Row Garden Bears Fruit...

Klehm’s Plant A Row garden proved most fruitful this year, providing a record amount of vegetables for local food pantries. Klehm donated 2078 lbs. of fresh produce to the Rock River Valley Food Pantry, largely thanks to the hard work of volunteer Mary Jo Shickles. This year’s haul included 189 lbs. of cabbage, 520 lbs. of zucchini and 722 lbs. of tomatoes. Launched in 1995, Plant A Row is a public service program of the Garden Writers Association and the GWA Foundation. Garden writers are asked to encourage their readers/listeners to plant an extra row of produce each year and donate their surplus to local food banks, soup kitchens and service organizations to help feed America’s...
